After a leisurely morning (only because we wanted to catch the 9:00 opening) we are off on our adventure.

We begin to approach the locks. Kingston Mills is only 5 miles from downtown Kingston but it feels like we are we are already in the wilds.

The locks usually are 'down' over night. This means that they usually lock the boats that are waiting at the bottom up first.
Look at this first picture and you can see the 'Blue Line'. Tying up to the Blue Line tells the lock attendants that you want to transit the lock.
